A few simple upgrades can see a computer perform much better than before, and you'll be surprised at how little it can cost!
Upgrade Your Memory (RAM)
The RAM is the workspace that your computer uses to get tasks done. Think of it as a workbench: the bigger it is, the more you can fit on it, and you'll work faster too as you won't keep having to shift stuff off the workbench and into another cupboard to make space for new things that you're currently looking at right now. More memory = faster computer.
Contact us to see how much extra RAM we can install into your system, and you'll see an immediate performance boost!
We recommend: for Windows XP, a minimum of 512MB but go for 1GB+ for best results. For Windows Vista and Windows 7, we recommend at least 2GB if you have a 32-bit version or 4GB for 64-bit versions.
Get a Bigger Hard Drive
The hard drive is the area of your computer where you store data such as documents, photos, videos and music - but it's also where the operating system (eg. Windows) lives too. If you're running out of space this can slow your computer down as the drive may become more fragmented, and it's also where Windows moves items to if it runs out of RAM. You can either replace your current hard drive with a larger one, or install an additional hard drive for extra storage if your desktop or laptop case will allow.
Hard drive prices vary depending on how much extra storage you need. Contact us and we'll be happy to advise a solution tailored to your needs.
Go Solid State
The traditional hard drive is the oldest piece of technology in most computers today, still featuring a spinning magnetic plate and a mechanical arm to pick up and write your data - it's no wonder they can get so slow and are so prone to data loss. Solid State Drives feature no moving parts, meaning that they're up to TEN TIMES faster, operate silently, use very little power (great for laptops & netbooks!) and keep your data much more safe. Plus, you never need to worry about degragmenting ever again! So if you've got Windows 7 then you're all set to switch over to an SSD and start experiencing the benefits that this new technology has to offer!
This is still a relatively new technology and as such is quite pricey, but the good news is prices are coming down all the time. Get in touch!
Upgrade Your Processor
Of course, one of the best ways to make your computer run faster is get a faster processor! It depends on your motherboard as to which processors you'll be able to upgrade to, so just get in touch and we'll be happy to examine your computer and provide a list of upgrade options.
